Environmental Dredger - ED

The environmental dredger is suitable for dredging contaminated siltation and other pollutions which affect the environment. With environmental concerns at the forefront and heart of the future of dredging, the environmental dredger provides a cost effective and efficient solution to environmental problems.

The Environmental Dredger, known as ED, was developed through extensive research and trials in Venice, Italy, and it was found that a concentration of up to 90% of solids could be removed, thus making the system ideal for the removal of siltation from lakes, rivers, harbours etc.

Material can be pumped almost insitu into containers for treatment
•One man operation of dredger
•No winch wires required - easier dredging
•Self propelled
•Automatic adjusting
•Environmentally acceptable in confined places
•Reservoir desilting with minimum water removal
•Canal cleaning (unless heavily dumped, in which case combined machines may be required)
•Able to work in less than 0.8m of water
•Running costs less than any other known system of dredging
•Acoustically covered for noise control
•Full service back up

The machine is designed to dredge solid siltation and sands with a maximum stone size up to 50mm, with the minimum of water and up to 80/90% concentration of solid material, and to remove hydrosoil at a controlled rate which is essential in the de-silting of reservoirs and canals etc.

To enable the machine to be completely mobile and able to work in closed environments where the use of anchors and winch wires are prohibited, specially designed thruster units are fitted to provide the thrust for dredging in water.  These units can also be used in the local propulsion of the unit.  Where water levels are limited, dredging can still be achieved by the use of the variable speed screw head with automatic adjusting ability.

The machine is of one-man operation, with a possible "in built" characteristic of becoming computer controlled for operation in environments where manual operators are prohibited.

Features, Advantages and Benefits of the Environmental Dredger

  • Uses Positive Displacement pump
Can pump very high concentrations of material solids, 80 - 90%, compared to 10 - 25% with centrifugal pump
Material can be pumped at a low velocity and under control, for example into containers for ease of examination and treatment

Easier to transport away, because of less water
Ideal for toxic material as less to treat or dump
    Cost savings
  • Head can be pushed under the material
Very little disturbance around the head
    Less disturbance to surrounding environment
    Minimal re-suspension
    of contaminated material
    Cost savings
  • Does not need winches
Ideal for tight situations, e.g. canals, Marinas, Ports, where winches hinder other traffic and manoeuvrability.
No need to re-accommodate craft in Marina whilst cleaning up
Cost savings, less inconvenience for craft owners

  • Has its own propulsion units
No need for tug boat or workboat.  Gives increased manoeuvrability
Save on cost of workboat and on cost of manpower to operate same

  • Has a low draft, and no Spuds, and uses thrusters to stay in position
Easier access to places at low water, means continuity of operation
    Increased productivity
